After completing construction on their new mountain home in Highlands, North Carolina, the homeowners weren’t quite settled with their interiors. While cabinetry, lighting, some furnishings, and select artwork were already in place, the overall composition felt unresolved; the scale of key pieces didn’t quite match the grandeur of the spaces. They then turned to Northside’s Talli Roberts and Brandon Jarrett to thoughtfully refine and complete the interiors.
Set against a dramatic mountain backdrop, the home called for a rich, moody palette with layered color, texture, and art. Entry begins at the glass and metal front doors, opening into a dark, paneled Foyer punctuated by striking abstract artwork and brass accents, an introduction to the home’s bold yet refined aesthetic.
In the main living areas, the design team reimagined the Living Room and Den with furnishings better suited to the scale of the architecture. The homeowner, with a background in the furniture industry and a love for luxurious textiles, embraced an expressive mix of layered textures and distinctive color palettes. Artwork guided the soft blush tones in the Living Room, while peacock blue-green cabinetry anchored the Den’s palette. Each space was unified with new, large-scale rugs that ground the seating areas and connect the overall design narrative. The upholstery in both rooms features generous curves, softening the feel of otherwise squared-off geometric rooms. In the Dining Room, updated seating—including reupholstered captain’s chairs in a rich velvet pattern—adds depth and polish.
In the Kitchen, a subtle shimmer was introduced through wallcovering, complemented by custom Roman shades that extend into the Butler’s Pantry and Laundry Room. The Primary Suite was completed with carefully selected furnishings to enhance both comfort and cohesion.
Now, the home serves as a sophisticated yet inviting retreat—perfectly scaled for gathering with their adult children and designed for relaxed, memorable moments in the mountains.
