FAQs for Architects, Builders & Contractors
What types of projects are the best fit for your firm?
Our firm specializes in whole-home new construction and large-scale residential renovation projects. These projects allow us to collaborate closely with architects, builders, and homeowners to create cohesive, highly customized homes from concept through completion.
We typically take on projects with a minimum furnishings investment of $80,000, ensuring that furniture, lighting, rugs, and décor are appropriately scaled and selected for the architecture of the home. Most projects exceed this minimum investment, but that threshold allows us to ensure main spaces receive new items that are in alignment with the overall style and scale of the home.
We also welcome furnishing and décor projects for clients looking to refresh existing homes. Our Asheville showroom provides a convenient space to review options, compare materials, and experience furnishings firsthand.
When and how do you collaborate with architects and builders during a project?
We prefer to join the project team once there is a preliminary set of plans in place and before those plans are finalized. Early collaboration allows us to identify opportunities that improve functionality, furniture layouts, circulation, lighting placement, and overall livability.
One of our first steps is often developing a furniture plan to ensure adequate spacing, proper scale, and alignment between furniture layouts, electrical planning, and architectural details. Throughout the project, we work closely with architects and builders to ensure every design decision supports the architectural vision and project goals.
Do you assist with finish, fixture, and material selections during construction?
Yes. We guide clients through all interior finish and fixture selections, including flooring, tile, countertops, plumbing fixtures, lighting, paint colors, hardware, and other construction materials.
We typically coordinate with the builder’s preferred vendors and trade partners, scheduling showroom appointments and managing the selection process to keep decisions organized, documented, and aligned with the construction schedule. We then prepare selections schedules and drawing sets necessary for both accurate estimates and proper implementation in the field.
Do you attend site meetings and walkthroughs?
Yes. We regularly attend project meetings, job site walkthroughs, and key construction milestones throughout the building process.
To ensure productive meetings, we coordinate with the builder and architect in advance and prepare agendas that help keep the project team aligned on decisions, deadlines, and next steps. We also assist with coordinating key client visits for items like electrical walkthroughs and punch list walkthroughs.
Do you provide construction drawings or permit sets?
For new construction projects, construction documents and permit sets are typically prepared by the project’s architect. That said, we do offer drawings that build on the architectural set such as full interior elevations, reflected ceiling plans, lighting and electrical plans, cabinetry details, and detailed elevations for plumbing and tile placement.
For renovation projects, we can provide renovation drawings and documentation needed for permitting and construction, depending on the scope of work and project requirements.
How do you help prevent construction and selection delays?
Proactive planning is one of the most important ways we add value to a project. We work directly from the builder’s construction schedule, tracking upcoming milestones and decision deadlines to ensure selections are made well before materials are needed on-site.
By coordinating finishes, fixtures, furnishings and specifications early in the process, we help reduce delays, avoid last-minute substitutions, and keep projects moving efficiently.
Do you coordinate procurement, ordering, and installation?
Yes. We provide complete procurement and installation services for all products purchased through our firm.
Our team manages ordering, tracking, receiving, inspection, storage, delivery, and installation for furnishings, lighting, area rugs, artwork, window treatments, and décor. This comprehensive process ensures every item arrives as specified and is professionally installed before project completion.
We pay attention to the small details, like making sure all furniture is fitted with nail-in felt feet before making it into the house onto fresh new floors. We are here to add value, and decrease headaches, not create new ones!
What do builders and architects value most about working with your firm?
Builders and architects value our ability to bridge the gap between design intent and construction execution. With more than 15 years of experience serving Asheville and Western North Carolina and nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, we understand how to collaborate effectively with the entire design-build team.
Our project partners consistently cite our attention to detail, professionalism, responsiveness, and project management expertise as key strengths. We are comfortable reading architectural plans, preparing specification schedules, coordinating selections, working through issues onsite with the project manager and subcontractors, and identifying potential issues before they become costly problems.
Because we are deeply connected to the local design and construction community, we also bring strong relationships with regional vendors, artisans, craftspeople, and trade professionals. Our goal is to make the process smoother for everyone involved while helping deliver an exceptional result for the client.
