FAQs for Homeowners
What types of projects do you take on?
We provide full-service residential interior design for whole-home new construction and large-scale renovation projects. Those projects typically involve budgets starting at $100,000, allowing us to create cohesive, thoughtfully designed homes from concept through completion.
We also offer smaller scale options for furniture and decor updates, and those typically begin at a $50,000 entry point.
Where do you offer interior design services?
We primarily serve clients throughout North Carolina and South Carolina, including Asheville, Hendersonville, Sylva, Waynesville, Boone, Lake James, Lake Lure, Lake Keowee, and The Cliffs communities. For the right project, we are happy to travel and have also completed projects in Southwest Florida.
What does full-service interior design include?
Our full-service interior design offering includes both interior design and project management services. We collaborate closely with architects on space planning, builders and trades on construction details, and homeowners throughout the entire design-build process.
In addition to selecting interior finishes, we curate, procure, and install all furnishings, lighting, window treatments, artwork, and décor. We also help clients determine which existing pieces can be incorporated into their new home to create a layered and personal result.
When should we bring in an interior designer for a renovation or new build?
We like to join the team as early as possible. The greatest value comes when we are involved before home plans are finalized.
For new construction, we can collaborate with your architect during the design phase to ensure the home functions beautifully and supports your lifestyle.
For renovations, we can help plan the scope of work, develop renovation drawings, and guide all finish, furnishing, and design decisions from the beginning. We often bring in area architects, builders and trades to form a cohesive design/build team.
What is your design process?
Designing a home is a layered, collaborative process in which each phase builds upon the last to create a cohesive and thoughtful result. Throughout the project, there are hundreds of selections and decisions to be made. Our design team simplifies that process and distills the options down so that our clients can actually enjoy the selection process.
To keep everyone aligned and informed, we follow a detailed design process checklist that outlines each phase, milestone, and decision point from concept through installation.
How involved will we need to be?
We tailor our process to each client’s needs and availability. Many of our clients live out of state and rely on us to serve as their eyes and ears throughout construction.
We work closely with the builder, architect, and trades to oversee the implementation of the design and communicate important updates. As key milestones arise—such as electrical walk-throughs and other critical site visits—we coordinate with the project team to schedule your involvement where it matters most.
How do you charge for your services?
We bill all design, project management, and administrative services at an hourly rate. Before beginning a project, we provide an “all in” budget based on the scope of work, including projected design fees and furnishings budgets, so clients have a clear understanding of their overall investment.
What is the minimum budget for a project?
For new construction projects, which often span one to two years, design time and furnishings and décor budgets commonly range from $150,000 to $350,000 or more, depending on the size of the home and the desired level of furnishing.
For renovation projects, furnishings and décor budgets typically begin around $80,000 and increase based on the scope of work.
For furnishings and decor only projects, budgets vary depending on the size of the home and the quality and quantity of furnishings desired. Our minimum threshold begins at $50,000. We begin each project with an estimated investment for both design services and product purchases.
Do you pass along trade discounts?
We receive wholesale-to-the-trade-only pricing from many of our vendors and typically sell products at a discount off of the manufacturer’s suggested retail or minimum advertised price.
Because our clients are already investing in our expertise and project management services, they often receive savings ranging from 20% to 40% off retail pricing.
For custom items such as window treatments, bench cushions, and specialty fabrication, we typically work on a cost-plus basis.
How would you describe your design style?
Our design approach is rooted in enhancing the architecture of the home. We draw inspiration from both the architectural style and our clients’ personal tastes and lifestyle needs, creating interiors that feel authentic, timeless, and highly livable.
While our work is often clean and refined, it is not defined by a single style. Whether modern, traditional, mountain, transitional, or somewhere in between, the final result reflects each client’s goals, lifestyle, and vision for their home.
Can you work with furniture and décor pieces we already own?
Absolutely. We love incorporating meaningful pieces that tell your story, whether that includes artwork, antiques, heirlooms, area rugs, or favorite furnishings.
In many cases, we recommend investing in new foundational pieces for primary living spaces to ensure proper scale and functionality within the new home. During installation, we thoughtfully integrate your existing artwork and accessories to create a finished home that feels personal and collected.
Do you collaborate with architects and builders? Can you recommend an architect or builder for my project?
Yes. We regularly collaborate with architects, builders, and specialty trades throughout the design and construction process.
Over the years, we have developed strong relationships within the design-build community and are often able to recommend professionals whose experience, approach, and aesthetic align with your project goals.
What is the benefit of having an interior designer involved during construction?
Involving an interior designer early in the construction process helps prevent costly mistakes, improves communication among the project team, and ensures every detail contributes to a cohesive final result.
Interior designers bring a unique perspective that bridges architecture, construction, and furnishings. We help avoid common pitfalls such as improperly scaled lighting, furniture that doesn’t fit the space, mismatched finishes, and incorrect paint or lighting selections.
Throughout construction, we coordinate with the architect, builder, and trades to ensure everyone has the information needed to execute the design correctly. We conduct regular site visits to verify that the finished work aligns with the design intent.
Most importantly, we help simplify a process that can otherwise feel overwhelming. With hundreds of decisions involved in a typical new build or renovation, our role is to guide you through each one with confidence, clarity, and expertise—so you can enjoy the journey as much as the finished home.
From concept to completion, we are your advocate, collaborator, and trusted guide. And when the project is complete, we celebrate right alongside you.
