We were initially attracted to an on-line interview of Talli Roberts that shared her philosophy of listening to her clients and then guiding them tastefully. Their portfolio appealed to our aesthetic sense, so it was an easy decision. They used local resources to gain more insights into our taste, and then combined local, national and international sources for their recommendations on furnishing. They recognized that we wanted both fine art and quality handcrafts prominent in our home. They recommended some moderately priced items to fill some basic needs, thereby allowing more funds for the purchase of handcrafted items that moved the design to a much higher level. They recruited local artisans to do custom work, including the construction of a display unit for sculpture and a unique fireplace screen and tools for an irregularly shaped fireplace. They also steered us to some handcrafted furniture including barstools and office furniture that beautifully optimize space utilization and function. “Allard + Roberts provided a complete design service for a new home in Black Mountain, NC. As an owner not present during the construction, we relied on Talli and team to provide all the details and selections (colors, tile, cabinets, woodwork, wood and carpet floors, bath and kitchen arrangements, lighting details, window treatments, and some furnishings) ahead of the builder. They also monitored the progress of the work to insure the design efforts were ahead of the builder’s schedule, and provided eyes and ears many times in our absence.
Only regret was that we did not hire them earlier in process, as there were opportunities to tweak the design that would have provided cost-saving benefits up front.
Advantages of using Allard + Roberts also included their access to competitive pricing for all the subcontractors they sourced.
The project lasted about two years, and likely saved us more money, let alone the value of the time/effort, than we paid for the services they spec’d out.
Strongly recommend using them in a custom home, but they will also provide this value in any size project where design and service are critical.”
