Gated golf course communities in Western North Carolina attract a particular kind of buyer. Those looking for a mountain home that is safe and well maintained when they are away, and which offers a built in social network for golf, dinner dates, cocktail parties and other gatherings when they are in town. And this community is situated right between Asheville and Hendersonville, with easy access to the Asheville airport. All of those features appealed to our South Florida based clients when they considered options for their vacation home and eventual retirement to WNC. They selected an architect, a builder, and an interior design team to manage the project on their behalf while they were back in Florida during construction.
Large windows, and pairs of doors that open to the screened porch and pocket away when not in use, take full advantage of the region’s year-round indoor/outdoor living capabilities. These homeowners desired a warm, modern aesthetic that paid homage to the home’s location and mountain views, and they wanted to work with local talent for custom features. Northside’s team including Talli and Miranda, worked with them for months to design each cabinetry, finish, tile and fixture detail to their taste. The Great Room features a high ceiling clad in two toned wood slats and an LED chandelier. Openings between the Foyer, Great Room, Kitchen and Dining area are clad in dark stained wood, coordinating with the custom walnut Kitchen cabinets and fireplace wall built ins. Blues and Greens are pulled into the fabric palette and artwork to echo the colors from the mountain landscape.
The Kitchen hood shroud is crafted from steel, and the slat ceiling detail repeats from the Kitchen into the Butler’s Pantry. There’s no doorway between the two spaces, which the architect intended. Designers used this detail to feature custom woodwork that runs from one space into the next, tying them together. The Pantry has a coffee bar for the homeowners, and a custom dog bowl area for the fur babies too. Glass-front cabinetry displays the couple’s china collection.
These homeowners love to entertain, so the custom cocktail bar in the Dining Room is a show piece. It features a quartzite slab sourced locally along with wine columns and custom walnut cabinerry and steel details. The large diameter round dining table was also crafted locally. Just off the Dining Room, the outdoor living area is just as comfortable, since Asheville residents are able to entertain outside most of the year.
From the start, the homeowners wanted a stone slab feature for their Primary Bath shower. The design team helped them select a green toned slab, which became the room’s focal point. The textured stone splash at her sit down makeup vanity echoes the green accents, while large-format porcelain tile clads the floor and shower walls.
The Lower Level features a Family/Rec Room complete with a seating area, game table and bar. Also on this level are multiple guest spaces and a home gym and a hot tub on the lower level patio. A dog run was also included for the pups, and a dog wash was included on the main level. Now all four residents (humans and pups alike) enjoy this custom WNC home while they await the day it becomes their full-time residence.
